The Converse Blog: Acie Law IV and Jameer Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson & The Last Dragon Redo

What a crazy week. I was all set to post the big post I've been talking about on Wednesday and then my Mother got sick and since I hadn't called to sub that day I told my Dad that I'd take care of her so he didn't have to take a day off of work. The only problem was in the all the excitement I forgot to post anything let alone the larger piece. Which at this point probably appears more important and interesting than it really will be. Either way, I didn't get to post today because I had to watch High School Musical 2: 3 times today...aka I subbed for the choir teacher. Tonight we're doing our Halloween alternative festival at Church which goes from 5:30 to 8:00 then we have to break everything down which takes another 2 hours. And as it turns out I am going out of town tomorrow to Bowling Green so I am gonna have to post something early. Which means I'll be putting off the larger post until next week. I offer you all my apologizes for a rather lack luster week here at The Converse Blog.

Below is a picture from last night's game between Atlanta and Orlando. Acie Law IV and Jameer Nelson are pictured below. Nelson, who according to Converse.com isn't a current member of their NBA roster is wearing the new Converse Assist. Acie Law IV on the other hand is wearing the Converse Attack, a shoe that came out last year that I only saw in a Champs Sports and no where online...in America. Lovely... and don't even get me started about the Heat game last night.



It also turns out that The Last Dragon will be getting a remake with Samuel L. Jackson will star as Sho'Nuff the Sho Gun of Harlem. I am very excited about this, but only if they keep the line, "Kiss My Converse." Arguable the most memorable line from the first movie. But I've got a bad feeling about them changing to another brand of shoes for the remake. This can't happen, but I know that the good people at Converse will be all over this to make sure that one of their iconic movie scenes isn't ruined by another brand sliding in to replace them....right?

The Converse Blog: Converse Wade 4, Converse Suspend Technology, Wade 4 Commercial

What a day, I finally get to let the cat out of the bag about the Wade 4. I am more excited for this Wade release than any other, with the only exception possibly being the first Wade. Why, might you ask? The answer is simple, the brand new Converse Suspend Technology makes its debut in the Wade 4. For the first time since the end of the Converse Icon, a Converse shoe will have an honest to goodness cushioning technology. That's not to say the other Converse releases over the last few years haven't performed well, but to me it's all about perception. The use of a new technology does more than just improve a shoe. It sends a message to consumers that you're improving your product, and that you're striving to do better. In essence it says, "hey!, take me serious now." I also think that the use of new technology in a shoe can be a step to the next level for a company. For example, could you imagine Nike without Air in their shoes? Below is the best shot of the Converse Suspend Technology followed by a brief description of what it does.

Weighing in as the lightest WADE signature shoe to date at 14 ounces, the WADE 4 also provides advanced support and breathability. It features new Suspend Technology in a cushioned shelf that rests over the hollowed heel on top of a layer of foam. Upon impact, the shelf displaces to create a desirable “trampoline” effect that helps to minimize impact forces. The WADE 4 is a truly breathable shoe, with open ventilation on the lateral and medial sides of the shoe for maximum airflow. The thin, inner booty sock has a fit system, which promotes lock down, while cushioning the ankle and allowing flexibility.

The Converse Blog's Friday Flashback: Kentucky Wildcats 1996-97 Converse Jersey

I wanted to give some love to the poll winner today, but I also thought I'd change it up some and not post shoes. So I dug into my folders and came up with these pictures of the 1996-97 Kentucky Wildcats Home Jersey and Shorts. This was the last year Kentucky wore Converse and it was the season after Kentucky won a 6th Championship. This was noted by a special patch on the shorts. You can't really tell from these pictures, but the there is a monochrome stripe pattern down the jersey and shorts. It is similar to the new Nike Kentucky jerseys in which the pattern is the same color as the jersey. It was pretty interesting at the time, hopefully I can find some action shots for you all someday.

These Jerseys came out the same year that Converse switched over to using the Chuck Taylor logo on all of their basketball shoes. I had a pair of the shorts, or I should say, that I still have a pair of the shorts. I am just not sure were they are, probably in a box somewhere. The Converse Blog's Weapon Wednesday

Good Wednesday World, and welcome to the latest edition of The Converse Blog's Weapon Wednesday. Today's Weapon comes from Converse Japan, who has been killing it with their Converse 100th year celebration. They've really taken full advantage of the limitless possibilities of the world wide interweb. One of the really interesting things they've done this year is go back and reinterpret some earlier releases. Like this particular Weapon is based on a 2003 release of the classic shoe.



What you can't tell from these pics is that these Weapons work like a Cheerleading shoe. They come with color inserts that go where the chevron and star is located. They also have inserts to replace the tongue logo. You can get a better idea of what I am talking about below.

The Converse Blog: Converse Wade City Ox Marquette

You all didn't think that I forgot about the blog did you? Well good because I didn't. But I am working on a larger scale piece that I had hoped would be ready today and it is not. So instead I bring you the Marquette colorway of the Converse Wade City Ox.

I don't have a pair of these myself, but I do enjoy the amount of details that appear to be in them. I've got a few more colorways to post of this shoe later on down the road. Well that's it for today, thanks for checking out the blog.

The Converse Blog's Friday Flashforward: Converse Wade Slash

Happy Friday, and welcome to the Converse Blog's first ever Flash Forward. Today instead of looking back into the Converse archives, I'll be looking forward to an upcoming Converse release. Soon Converse will be releasing the Converse Wade Slash the first none signature and none team Wade basketball shoe. Already this shoe has been seen on the feet of Acie Law and Alando Tucker. One of the interesting features of this shoe is the Velcro straps that connect from the tongue of the shoe to the sides. This makes for an interesting use of the Converse logo in a more functional way than just branding. The shoes are double-lasted to give that low to the ground speedy look that helped to make the Wade 1 and 1.3 so popular...well that and the guy who was wearing them.

Well that's it for today's Flash Forward. I am working on putting together a very interesting post for next week that could stretch for a few post or so. I am not for sure yet, but it should be pretty interesting...well at least I hope so.

The Converse Blog: Converse NYX Automatic

Recently these shoes, the Converse NYX Automatic showed up over at Eastbay. However, I first saw these on TaoBao about 2 or 3 months ago. To me they have a lot of similarities to the Converse Transition which was a Finishline with a mix of the Converse Assist. The main influence from the Assist appear to be in the outsole which is the same for the Converse Double Double also.





These shoes scream fast and they're very clean. They also come in a Black/Black colorway that Eastbay has too. The Converse Blog's Friday Flashback Converse Energy Wave Walking Shoes (For Old People)

Converse used to make every type of shoe you could ever want, from a street hockey shoe, to fishing boots, Military issue boots, street luge shoes, and yes even old people walking shoes. Today we're going to venture into the world of mall walking and eating Werthers originals. That's right I am talking about a walking shoe powered by Converse Energy Wave technology.

There isn't a lot you can say about these shoes that the pictures don't tell you. They came in a nice White/White colorway...also I would think a black/black and a beige/beige colorways were made too. Which ever colorway you went with, you were sure to feel the extra amount of cushioning from the Energy Wave technology. That's it for today, go out and walk some this weekend!
