'S Friday Flashback: North Carolina Startechs

As a die hard University of Kentucky fan, there are few things I dislike in the world more than the Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels.  However, I do respect both programs and the success that they have had over the years.  HBO films just put out a documentary about their famous rivalry named "Battle for Tobacco Road."  I haven't gotten a chances to see it yet, but like most sports docs from HBO I am sure it will be great.  So to honor that and a time when Converse was worn by the elite of the elite in college basketball, I bring you today's Friday Flashback.

These Converse Startechs are in the simple yet classic white/Carolina blue colorway.  If you look carefully at the documentary you might even see these same shoes.  The Startech's have been re-issued in Japan for a number of years now, but have yet to see an American release.

Danny Granger In Converse!

So the title of this post might be a little misleading, but it is actually true.  I really meant to post these before now, but I never got around to it.  These are pictures from All Star weekend featuring Danny Granger of the Pacers wearing the classic black core colorway of the Converse All Stars.  This was pretty fitting as Granger was making his first All Star game appearance.  I got these pictures from yahoo/Getty Images.

Thanks for checking out the blog.

Converse Wade 4.0 Sample.

Here is a sample colorway of the Converse Wade 4.0.  This was the colorway of the shoe that was featured in a recent HOOPS magazine in their review section.  This is a more conservative colorway than the first two colorways that were released.  I am saying this because the midsole is not in a camo pattern.

It could be the solid midsole or the coloration of the lines in the upper, but this version brings to light some of the details of the shoe.  In case you missed it, Mr. Wade dropped 50 on the magic yesterday, too bad only one other player on the Heat scored more than 8 points.  Oh well, I still like the trade for O'Neal but that could change.  Thanks for checking out the blog!

'S Friday Flashback: Converse All Star Training Shoes.

Hi all, welcome to The Converse Blog's Friday Flashback.  Today we're going after the All Star training shoe.  This is a classic training shoe in a very nice suede Navy/White colorway.

I really wish I had a picture of the out sole but alas I do not.  However, this shoe was re-issued a few years ago, so you might be able to find a pair floating around out there.  Thanks for checking out the blog, have a great weekend!

'S Weapon Wednesday: Lady Weapon.

In recent years we've seen Converse use the Weapon as a base for some other shoes, like the Weapon Skate and the Poorman's Weapon.  Later on this year we'll see them do it again with the release of the Converse Lady Weapon.  This picture comes from Schroeder + Schoembs.  I see a lot of potential with this version of the classic Converse sneaker.  Hopefully I'll have some more information and colorways to pass your way soon.

Thanks for Checking out the Converse Blog!

'S Friday Flashback Friday the 13th Edition: Converse Road Star

Welcome to the Converse Blog's Friday Flashback.  In honor of the release of the new Friday The 13th movie today I thought I'd pull of a themed post.  If you've seen any of the Friday the 13th films you know there a few things that you can bank on.  These include a group teenagers, they will get drunk or high, and they will most likely have the sex.  You will also see most of the said teenagers running for their lives as Jason is right on their heels.  Maybe if some of those camp councilors were wearing these Converse Road Stars they could have gotten away, or a least a little bit further.

These classic running shoes had all of the standard early 80's features, which included a nice combination of Nylon and Suede uppers.

You just have to love the Classic silver 80's style Converse box.  I've got a few more things to cover, so check back either tonight or tomorrow for another post here at The Converse Blog.

'S Weapon Wednesday: Weapon 86 Knicks Colorway

Crazy day here in Kentucky.  A strong line of thunderstorms just swept across the state like a firm pimp slap.  I watched it rain in 3 different directions.  Then we lost power, then the power came on and then the TV went out.  Oh, and I couldn't find our battery radio or our War of the Worlds crank radio, thank you Tom Cruise.  Needless to say it was pretty crazy.  Speaking of crazy, these new Converse Weapon 86's are just that.  You can them in a very nice Blue/Orange Knicks inspired colorway.

Sorry for the late post today, I had to keep up with some crazy 5th graders.  Besides the F'bomb and sneaky cell phone use, it was a rather pleasant day all around.  Thanks for checking out the blog, enjoy the weather where ever you are!

Josh Maravich is that dude. Converse All Stars in Action

Sometimes I see something that just warms my feet, or is that my heart?  Either way a few days ago I came across these photos over at UniWatchblog.com.  This would be Josh Maravich, son of the legend Pistol Pete Maravich.  He recently played in a LSU alumni game and decided to rock his Father's floppy socks with some Chucks.
You just really have to love everything about this.  Thanks to to fine people over at LSU's website you can view a photo gallery of the event.  However, they took it to another level and posted the entire game online, you can find the video and photo gallery here.  Thanks for stopping in for a visit here at The Converse Blog.

's Friday Flashback: The Converse Mountain Club CMC 3000

With the temperature finally going above freezing today, I've had an urge to be outside and enjoy the warm sun beating down on my face.  Too bad for me I had to work today, like most of you probably had to do as well.  But tomorrow is shaping up to be an even better day, weather wise that is.  Which got me thinking about today's Friday Flashback.  These shoes are from the late 80's I believe, but with a unique Converse logo it is hard to be for sure.  What I do know is that they were designed to be used in the great outdoors, or the city streets which ever jungle you prefer.

As you can see these shoes look pretty similar to Chucks, which should come as no real surprise.  However, the midsole seems to be constructed in a more rugged fashion.  You can also see from the outsole that the traction pattern, if there is one, is nothing like what you would find on a pair of Chucks.  There is also a really nice rubber heel cup on CMC 3000 as you will see below.  The tag line on these shoes was, "When your heart longs for the hills and your feet live in the city."

You can't read it from this picture, but this is what is written below.
"Finally, a shoe that lets you be in two places at one time, follow your heart to the Converse Mountain Club.  Five high-styled canvas colors that live for the city and long for the great outdoors."

It's been a rough week for Converse, first Jameer Nelson goes out with a separated shoulder and will miss the All Star game and maybe the rest of the season.   Then Elton Brand shuts it down for the rest of the season with his shoulder as well.  This leaves only 7 active NBA players wearing Converse.  However, Marquette continues to roll on as the only undefeated team in Big East play.  Thank you for checking out the blog and for your continued support and comments.   Enjoy your weekends!

Converse Product (Red) This is not a shoe it's a Mania

So I know that I don't usually post on Thursdays, but considering school was canceled today because of inclement weather, I thought why not.  So today I have Product (Red) 1hund(red) artist # 94 Andrew Mania's design.

This shoe is currently available at Converse.com in a White/Navy colorway.  For those of you that grew up going to Sunday School, these shoes might remind you of a felt board you were taught with.  At least the words on the chucks look like Felt to me.  If you have no idea what I am talking about or just wish for a trip down memory lane check out this website.  Well that's it for today, check back sometime tomorrow for The Converse Blog's Friday Flashback!

'S Weapon Wednesday: Steelers Weapon

I've got to be honest, I was pulling for Arizona in the Super Bowl.  However, this wasn't like last year where I hated one team.  I actually like Pittsburgh, but I had to cheer for a team that hadn't won a championship in 61 years.  Well we all know what happened, and it ended up being a great football game.  So to honor the 6 time Super Bowl champs, today's Weapon's come in Pittsburgh Steelers black and gold.

As you can see these Weapons come with the ankle strap, which means that they're from Converse Korea.  Sorry steelers fans, unless you have some connections.  You'll just have to wait until the Weapons pop up on Converse One so you can design your own.

Sea Star Leather

Converse set sail back into the boat shoe world last year with the Sea Star.  You'll see the Sea Star in some other colorways coming this year.   I recently came across a black/white leather version of the Converse Sea Star.  I don't know if these are just samples or if they will release later on, but I must say that the leather takes them to a whole other level.

Thanks for checking out the Converse Blog.  I hope we get to see these maybe in the fall, but I don't know for sure.  If I hear or see anything else I'll get the news on the blog.
