Converse John Varvatos All Star Bosey Boot

It's been a minute or two since I've featured a John Varvatos Converse shoe, so I thought I'd show off these new All Star Bosey Boots.  They come on a light brown and a black colorway, of which you can see at the end of the brown pictures.  They have a nice zipper on the side for easier wear.  They also have a clean and simple star on the heel that you can see below.  You can gear up for the fall in these at Converse.com for $125.

Converse Friday Flashback: Converse CASSRACER

Welcome boys and girls to the Converse Blog's Friday Flashback.  Today we have a not so old Converse running shoe from Japan in 2004, the Converse CASSRACERI'm not sure what the CASS stood for, so if you happen to know please pass the knowledge.  I keep hoping that Converse will bring back some performance categories, but until then we're left with shoes from the past to enjoy.

Converse Star Player DL Mid

All black everything.  Converse releases their first mid top performance basketball shoe of 2011 with the Converse Star Player Mid.  As I mentioned earlier this a black/black/black/black/Silver colorway.  I am pretty sure that these contain both CONtain ankle foam and a version of Converse Balls Technology in the heel.  You can pick them up at Converse.com for $60

Converse Square Star Hoodie

One my favorite people texted me this morning telling me that it felt like fall outside.  To which I replied to her...."Football!!!!!" followed quickly with, "Makes me wanna be in a cabin in East Tennessee."  However, in my head I was also thinking Hoodie Weather!!!!

Sometimes it's the simple things...speaking of which is this new Converse hoodie.  I found it on KICKZ.com
. Unfortunately shipping to the US cost about as much as the hoodie itself does.  Oh well it's nice to look at.  If you're in the EU it shouldn't be too bad.

Converse in NBA 2K12, Magic in Weapons!!!!

Do you often wonder what it would be like to see Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Converse working together again?  Me too.  I can't imagine why Nike hasn't forced the issue to mend whatever fences need mending.  But alas there is a slight ray of hope, in the wondering world of NBA 2K12 you can see Magic Johnson wearing the classic Converse Weapon and Dr. J wearing the Pro Leather.

Hopefully this means the rest of the game will feature the classic shoes that the legends played in.  So while we just saw the Dr. J Pro Leather's, we still might be a few years and dollars away from seeing a Magic or Bird edition Converse Weapon.

Friday Flashback Converse PF Flyers Sail Fish

Welcome one and all to The Converse Blog's Friday Flashback.  Today I'm bringing you the the Converse PF Flyers Sail Fish boys shoes....do what?  You may know PF Flyers as a New Balance affiliate brand these days, but it was once owned by Converse.  Converse bought the Goodrich athletic brands in 1971, which included PF Flyers.  Later on Converse sold off the brand at the "request" of the Department of Justice, who complained they were monopolizing the sneaker market of that day.

So for a short time some Converse shoes also carried the PF, or Posture Foundation, name.
Below is one of them, the Sail Fish.  You'll notice the triangles that came from BF Goodrich's Jack Purcell shoe, which I'm sure you've heard of.  Converse was able to keep the Jack Purcell shoe and logo after the sell of PF Flyers.

Converse Jack Purcell Sport Ox

It's not hard to see that the Converse Jack Purcell has started to grow in popularity as Converse has been tweaking them up more frequently.  Today is a perfect example of such tweaking, below is the Converse Jack Purcell Sport ox.  They come in suede and leather versions and are currently up at Finishline.com for $64.99.  Check them out below in all 3 colorways.

The Converse Blog Makes the Case for Big Baby

Thank you for stopping by this special investigative report from The Converse Blog.  Today we examine evidence that would seem to suggest that Glen "Big Baby" Davis has joined Team Converse.  There has been no official announcement, therefore all of this evidence could turn out to be nothing more but a Converse coincidence.

So I will be making my case to you this afternoon with visual evidence.  Exhibit A has already been introduced, which is the picture of Big Baby with Rondo last week wearing a Converse shirt.

Exhibit B:

Why this is good evidence:  Big Baby is seen below at one his charity events wearing a the Black Monochrome Chuck Taylor Ox.  Usually players wear their sponsors to events, but not always.

Why this is bad evidence:  Lots of NBA players from the likes of LeBron James, Amare Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, and Kevin Durant have been photographed wearing Chucks, and unfortunately none of them wear Converse in the NBA.  Also he's wearing Nike socks.

Exhibit C:

Why this is good evidence:
Big Baby is seen signing autographs on a Converse backpack for students.  Also you can see someone holding a bunch of them so it's not just this one kids' backpack in the picture.  This picture, along with the Exhibit B were taken at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library's event “Score Big with Books.”  Unlike other cities like Atlanta, Converse has not had a strong sponsorship presence in Baton Rouge.  The only direct link to the event for Converse would be through Glen Davis.

Why this is bad evidence:  Converse has been known to work with events that do not directly feature Converse athletes, so this could be jumping the gun a little.

Exhibit D:

Why this is good evidence:
Below is a grainy screen capture of Big Baby working out with his trainer.  You can however see clearly that he is wearing a Converse t-shirt.  It's not just any Converse t-shirt it's a I Chevron Star Boston T-shirt.

Why this is bad evidence:  This piece of evidence might be lacking in power.  For starters Glen is simply wearing a t-shirt sold at Converse's Boston store, anyone could buy that and wear it working out.  Also you can't make out what shoes he wearing, but there is nothing that screams Converse about them.  Plus he's wearing Jordan shorts.

Why this is good evidence with a counter point:  True, but have you tried on any of the current Converse tiny man t-shirts?  For Big Baby to have that much room in one of those t-shirts it's got to be a 6XL.  Converse's biggest shirt in their stores is a 3XL, and it's the same size as a normal XL, therefore this has to be a special made shirt for Big Baby directly from Converse.

Exhibit F:

Why this is good evidence: I've saved the most compelling evidence for last, the cardboard cut out.  Below is a cardboard cut out presented again at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library for their "Score Big with Books" campaign.  Big Baby is seen below wearing the Converse defCon performance basketball shoe.  As previously stated, athletes wear Converse Chuck Taylor's around all the time, but usually not their performance basketball shoes.  Plus he's wearing it for a promotional event, this seems pretty convincing to me.

Why this isn't good evidence:  This might not be the jury turning evidence that it's being made out to be.  During last off season Chris Bosh was videoed training while wearing Adidas basketball shoes, but when it came time for media day and the season he was back in Nike.  This doesn't prove anything.

Closing argument:  Honestly none of these piece of evidence alone are prove of Big Baby signing with Converse.  However, I feel pretty strongly that these are much more then simple coincidence.  I think the combined evidence is over whelming in favor of Big Baby signing with Converse.  However, it is quite possible that Converse has been courting Big Baby and that he hasn't signed yet, or maybe not at all.  I guess we'll just have to wait for official word from Converse...or as is more likely the case, just see him wearing Converse next season.

You be the judge, let me know what you think?  Is Big Baby with Team Converse or I am just wishfully thinking.

Hall of Fame Congratulations to Teresa Edwards too

Sadly I couldn't find very many pictures, but Teresa Edwards used to rock the Converse too.  So I wanted to say Congratulations on being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.  She's pictured below wearing the Converse Athletic BB...okay I can't remember the exact name but it was something like that.  Don't let the generic name full you, these updated version of the Chuck Taylor played pretty nice.

Hall of Fame Congratulations to Dennis Rodman

He'll probably never see this, but I wanted to show some Dennis Rodman some love from The Converse Blog.  You're the only reason I didn't completely hate the Bulls because of your Converse shoes.  I probably speak for a whole lot of people that wish Converse would retro the All Star 91, maybe someday.

Friday Flashback Converse Tennis

Hello world!  Welcome to another edition of the Converse Blog's Friday Flashback.  Today we have a classic Converse Tennis shoe feature the rare Heel Star logo.  This logo was most recently used in the First String Matchpoint.  I am not sure the of the name of the particular shoe, it could even be the original Matchpoint as they do look similar.  My best guess is that this came out sometime during the Eltra Era at Converse.  My guess is that Chris Evert or Jimmy Connors would have worn these at some point, but I couldn't find any pictures.

Converse RUNE Pro II

Below is the new Converse RUNE Pro II, which is the second pro shoe for Converse Skate Ambassador Rune Glifberg.  I've only seen these on UK websites so I am not sure when you can see them Stateside.  Below are the Brown and Grey colorways.  You can see that these are mid tops with plenty of padding around the ankles so you know they're comfortable.
